New Year’s Resolution: Me
Another year has come and gone and it seems as though it has rushed by in an instant. Many of us probably find ourselves asking the age-old question: where has the time flown? Chances are some of us have let the year pass us by without carefully tracking the days, and have allowed for time to rule over our lives instead of vice versa. For the year ahead, perhaps we can try something new, and instead of worrying about everyone and everything else, perhaps, just for one year we can try putting ourselves first.
Foreign as this idea may seem, so many of us grow up with the idea that to be a good person, you need to put others ahead of yourself – your children, partner, parents, co-workers etc. Basically, everyone else’s needs come before your own, right?
But, what about you? Who is going to look after you better than yourself? Unless you have a guardian angel on your back, chances are you’re your own best saviour.
This may at first seem selfish but if you really think about it, how can you look after anyone else when you’re not at your best? When you’re tired, stressed out and worn out, are you really benefitting anyone around you?
So this year, try putting yourself first sometimes to make a ‘better’ you. A healthier, happier you can only benefit everyone and everything in your life. Whether it’s taking long walks by yourself, having that cup of tea (or glass of wine!) or eating that second helping of ‘melkkos’ without others demanding your attention, do it!
Who cares what the world’s standards for beauty, body, career etc are, as long as by the end of 2016 you can say that you made one or two changes that benefited YOUR life, you did good. Take the time to look after your needs first, and you’ll soon notice that you’ll have more to offer your loved ones as a result. Remove all the negativity from your life and push for your inner peace of mind. You deserve it!
