Kitima at the Kronendal
If your mouth waters at the thought of five star authentic Asian food, then Kitima at Kronendal should be on your bucket list. Housed in a so-they-say haunted national monument building in Hout Bay, Kitima is certainly way out of the ordinary.
To whet your appetite, imagine biting into these Thai dishes from the menu:
For starters: Satay Kai – Pan grilled skewers of chicken fillet marinated in coconut milk served with peanut sauce or Chilli Pepper Salt Squid – crispy fried squid flowers tossed with chilli pepper salt.
For mains: The famous Aromatic crispy Duck – crispy fried duck served with Kitima’s homemade duck sauce, pancakes, julienned spring onions, cucumber and carrots; Pla Neng Ma Nao – in short, lightly steamed fillets of kingklip or cob on Chinese cabbage with a fresh a fresh chilli and lime sauce; or Phad Prik Gaeng Moo Khob – crispy pork belly tossed in a red curry sauce with green beans and holy basil.
Not satisfied yet? There are 10 Thai-style curries to choose from, including Gaeng Massaman Nong Gae – A lamb shank peanut curry. This Recipe is published here, courtesy of Chef Kuan Lai.
Aficionados may become Kitima slaves after the first taste of their Yum Nua – short for Thai beef salad – and the Tom Yum soup, which can be ordered with prawns or mushrooms.
Still not booking a place? Consider taking a group of friends for Dim Sum or a vast choice of sushi constructed from fish straight from the Hout Bay sea and beyond.
