Hein Scholtz – student entrepreneur and nutrition expert
He is seen as a maverick in the cookbook business and the guy whose cookbook is stuck in between academic tomes in many students’ bookracks.
When spotting a gap during his student years at The University of Stellenbosch, Hein Scholtz starting preparing easy, tasty and cost effective meals for his fellow-students.
This soon led to a column in the student newspaper and ultimately to his best-seller cookbook Munch.
The concept behind all Hein’s recipes is simply to stretch student budgets. With his guide, one can buy what is necessary – and use all the groceries in your cupboard.
With a BSc degree in Nutritional Science under his belt, this new boy on the block is no lightweight in the food and film business. Today he is the content producer for The Doctor Michael Mol Show, and he cooks just for the “show of it” during his weekends.
During May, Hein cooked up this innovative new Boere-paella at the Spekko Rice 2nd Celebrity Cook-Off Pop-Up event at The Palms Market in Woodstock:
