Cooking Gospel brought to you by Spekko Rice
Ma Dorah Sitole, a household name in every township kitchen, has developed a series of 26 new recipes for Spekko Rice’s television series Cooking Gospel.
Broadcasted at 11 am every Sunday on e.tv, this is the channel’s first local cooking programme. Cooking Gospel is unique in that for the first time Gospel music, African food and celebrity appearances are combined to make for memorable Sunday viewing. Presented by Zandi Nhlapo, the series is all about cooking Sunday lunch, listening to the best Gospel music in town, and sharing riveting revelations by celebrities.
Dorah become known as the first food editor and later editor of True Love magazine, and became part of South African history in 2006 when she was one of 4 of recipients of the inaugural South African Chefs Presidents Award – for outstanding contribution to the country’s hospitality industry.
Dorah is a renowned Africa food expert and chef and now columnist for the Sunday Times.
She is a recipient of 4 Galliova Awards for food writing and styling and serves on the prestigious Galliova Awards judging panel.
Dorah travelled and cooked internationally and has showcased South African cuisine in amongst other places, Memphis Tennessee, Tokyo, Brazil, Thailand and Rome (where she cooked for former SA President Thabo Mbeki and his entourage of SA top business people).
She is the author of Cooking from Cape to Cairo; Recipes with a Touch of Africa; and co-authored Cooking Step-by-Step. She also contributed to the following cookbooks; Women’s World 40th Birthday Celebration Cookbook; Thoughts and Tastes of South African Food by John Peacock and Hillary Biller; and The Gourmet’s Guide to Fine Foods on the Highveld.
Dorah is featured in Food Gurus Uncovered, published and authored by Gwynne Conlyn – as one of South Africa’s top 20 foodies.
She has been a Spekko Rice advocate for the last 6 years – “Spekko” at events and on radio, and developing recipes. Xhosa-speaking South Africans can listen to her every Thursday morning at 9.30 on Umhlobo Wenene FM, when she talks about catering and making money with food.
