Johnny Hamman
Chef Johnny Hamman won Kokkedoor 2, kykNET’s 2nd Afrikaans reality cooking series, with Free State home cook, Elsa Buys.
In this process he became the darling of thousands of people, gained the respect of every food writer in South Africa, and launched his own catering business with fellow-Kokkedoor finalist Marius Uys. Slippery Spoon is now possibly the most sought-after wedding, special occasion and event caterers in town.
In his first cookbook, Een Maal, (translated as One Meal or Once upon a Time), Johnny shares the recipes of the food he prepares for his best friends. Known for his flamboyant and “over-the-top” dinner parties, Johnny is no wilting wallflower in the kitchen. He is ultra-creative: he uses both his mother’s old recipes and the secrets of Michelin Chef to mix into his own crazy cooking.
Johnny, who also owns his own food business NOTHAMBUTMAN (try that one on the tongue), says the most important part of a meal is sitting down and enjoying food that will form new friendships, create closer ties to family and that will – of course – astound the diners.
This recipe book is for now only available in Afrikaans and is published by Human & Rousseau. It sells for R350. It is available at most booksellers.
Remember – we only have an Afrikaans copy.
